Creative Age at MHA Brockworth House Care Centre

Funded by Bethesda Methodist Church, we have tested a satellite Creative Age project at the specialist dementia care Methodist home just down the road. We have done group as well as 2-2-1 sessions there. We also work with residents who are no longer able to leave their rooms.

“The work done so far has been remarkable and has, without doubt, enhanced the lives of the residents involved.”  Jane Williams, Volunteers Coordinator at Brockworth House

Particularly wonderful at Brockworth House has been the level of staff support and involvement, with Activities Coordinators and carers joining in brilliantly.

“Residents who were previously quiet and, in some cases, sleepy became animated, happy and clearly very content.  Plenty of smiles, laughter and chatter.  The staff present witnessed the mood improvements take place before their very eyes.  They even learnt new things about their residents which surprised them.  Obviously, any knowledge gained by staff at these sessions is a huge advantage for the person-centred care we strongly advocate in this home.” Jane Williams, Volunteers Coordinator

We’ve done work with individual residents too, some relatively new to the home:

“One lady Lisa and Claire spent time with, who had only been at Brockworth for a short time, had virtually done nothing but cry since her arrival.  Their session changed her mood and she became engaged and started to smile and dance and laugh.  This mood change has been lasting.  It clearly gave her new confidence, as after that session we have been able to engage her in other activities, such as music therapy.” Jane Williams, Volunteers Coordinator
